This week Mrs. Drummond got us all Typo notebooks. They were for writing three things we are grateful for each day. Mine has a Pegasus on the front. One of the first things I was grateful for was Mrs.Drummond for getting us the journals (thank you)

Fiji

In the holidays I went to Fiji. on the first day, I got my full hair braided it took 3 hours! every morning I got a chocolate crepe they were sooooooooooooo good and I went swimming as well. Towards the middle, we stayed indoors to keep away from the sun. I had an amazing time in Fiji yo ushould go there too!

Haiku

today we made haikus I did three. My titles were about a Lake ,Fiji and school. Here is mine

Our assembly

Last week it was our assembly! The theme of our assembly was stereotypes. We did a play I got say "some of them look different to us". We also got to do a dance, I was in the front row. And I also got to introduce the dance. Here are some photos! ( I'm the one in the green dress)

Poem about the sun

Yesterday we made a poem about the sun. Mrs. Drummond showed us a poem about the moon and we got an idea from that. This is what my poem said.

                                                      The sun

                                                    The sun is a fireball
                                                Orbiting the earth.
                                                 It is like a balloon
                                                 Floating in the sky.

                                               The sun is  a light bulb
                                            Shining down on other planets.
                                                     It is as hot as an oven
                                                             Baking humans.

                                                       The sun is like a clock
                                                          ticking every minute.
                                                           It is like a disco ball
                                            Sparkling and shining on everything.

Poster

A couple weeks ago we made posters about verses in the bible. I did mine with Elia and it was about a mother hen. On the poster, we drew a picture of a hen and chicks. The verse was 'Mattew 23:37'. here is a photo!

Marae visit

On Wednesday we (our whole school) went to Unitec Marae. And two lovely ladies welcomed us into the marae. The marae was big and had lots of carvings on the side. And another person told us about the carvings on the walls (there were lots of stories). We also got some morning tea there I got Milo and a scone, they were so good! Here is a photo.

Instructions

A little while ago we made instructions for something. I made mine on how to make sushi. We had to also make a goal about why you should eat or make this thing. And here are my goal and Instructions.
How to make sushi

GOAL: Have you ever been so hungry that you will eat anything, well sushi is the thing for you. It is a very refreshing meal that is good for you! It has protein, carbohydrates (only in the rice) and vitamins. You should definitely try some sushi!😀

Ingredients:
Sticky rice 10g (for one role)
Seaweed large sheets (about 5 depends how many you want to make)

Fillings (chicken, fish, veg)

Water (just a little bit to wet your hands)

Utensils: 

Bamboo mat
Flat surface
knife
Method

1.put your seaweed on top of your bamboo mat

2.get the rice and spread the rice all over the seaweed (leave a bit at the end, like in the photo)

3.put your fillings in the middle of the rice

4.roll up your rice and seaweed like a tube in the bamboo mat (but don’t role the bamboo into the sushi)

5.now get your knife, cut it up and enjoy!!!!!!!!🍣(you can make as many as you want)

MARY MACKILLOP FEAST DAY

Last week on Thursday it was St Mary Mackillop's feast day. In the morning we went to mass and later on in the day we went to room 3 and made things. We had buddies, my buddy was Jessica. Together we made a Mary Mackillop paper statue and a poster that said one of her quotes. Here is a picture!

COOK ISLANDS WEEK

This is Cook Islands week and we have been learning things about the Cook Islands. In reading, I have been doing some worksheets. Alessandra and the cultural leaders showed us a song called 'GOD LOVES ME' and we learned the actions as well. This week has been really fun!

EGG SITTING

Last week we were egg sitting!!! I called my egg Wilma. She had big eyes and a small mouth. I even made an on-the-go bed that she could sleep in! While we were in school they (eggs) would be in daycare on Mrs. Drummond's desk.

MAORI ART

Over a few weeks now we have been doing drafts of our Maori art and a couple of days ago we started our good copy. For our good copy, we started by going over with sharpie on the pencil, then we couorlrd it in with pastels after that we dyed the background.  The dye I chose to do was yellow and orange. Here is a picture!!!!!

CYBER SAFETY

Last week on Friday, we did a Google Draw poster about cyber safety. I did it with Elia. It was for The Keeping Ourselves Safe program that we are doing at school. Before we did the poster we watched 'Bobby and Brian'. They showed us that if you see something that you don't like or scared of always tell an adult.

Water filter experiment!

Today we did an experiment! This nice lady called Sally came into our school. She told us all about the water cycle, we acted it out too! After that, we got to do our experiments. We tried all the different objects ( sand, cotton balls, paper towels, and bark)into a tub to see what worked, for our final one(aim to filter the water)

 for our final one, (the order was)  paper towels, cotton balls, a sprinkle of sand, paper towels and cotton balls. It worked out okish it was a bit dirty though. Here is a picture!

Our Goals

A couple weeks ago we made goals for Writing, Reading and Maths. We thought about what we were struggling on. As we achieved our goals we would take them down and put up new ones up again and repeat that. here are some photos!

My assembly

Last week we did our assembly we did a dance called "Anzac Day" it was about Maori battalions. Some people made up the first parts and others made the end parts of the dance. We also did a play. The name of it was "My Granddad walks on Anzac day". I was a watcher it was boring and fun at the same time. My assembly was very fun, thanks for reading!

R.E

This week we did a pyramid for R.E with words around it saying Love, Hope and Faith. It was fun writing,drawing and colouring on the pyramid. This is what mine looked like!

ANZAC ART

This week we were learning about Anzac day (Australia and new Zealand army crops).We also did some art  this is how we did it. 

1. we picked out a sheet to colour in
2. then we coloured it in with felts
3. we cut it out
4. after that we dyed the paper

Science week

This week is Science week and last Friday " Science in a van " came to our school. They showed us cool experiments with dry ice, hot and cold water and more. Also we got to do some things too, like learn about the periodic table and molecules in a fun way! I loved when they came to our school! Here is some photos :)

Get NZ Writing

For writing this week, our class entered the Get NZ Writing project.We got given 12 items and had to choose one to write about, I did a poem about a little white rock. We did these poems to send to another class, in return they wrote some for us. Mine looked like this...

Animal Poster

This week we choose a animal to research and put facts on a poster, I did my poster about a Red kangaroo. Every group did a poster about their chosen animal.We also had to put  pictures on it too. It was fun making my poster, this is what mine looked like:

Last week we did a bar graph about shops. We had to ask the whole class what is their favourite shop first so we could make the graph. The shops that we choose were

Shine day

On Friday we had shine day. It is called shine because we wear orange, and orange is a bright colour.
The purpose of it is to raise money for family's with domestic violence, so that day everyone looked crazy in orange!

shrove Tuesday

Today it is Shrove Tuesday and we saw Father Bernard burnt the old ashes from last year for tomorrow (Ash Wednesday). Right now we are room 1, making pancakes we (year 5's ) are doing our blog and the little kids are doing a writing/drawing peace .Were making pancakes because a long time ago  they would give up something for lent (usually these following things)  so they wanted to use up all the eggs,milk and flour so they don't go out of date .I love pancakes!!!!!!

swimming sports

Yesterday we went to "West wave" to our swimming sports.

I entered in the competitive swimming I did freestyle 25m and 50m,backstroke 25m and breaststroke 25m .I also did relays wail I was swimming I smacked my thumb on the side and got a blue/purple bruise. We nearleay missed swimming sports. Were at the end of the road waiting for about 30mins. wail we Were waiting there was a very fluffy white/cream courl fur,it kept on rowing on the grass.I really enjoyed swimming sports this year, I can't wait for next year!

sun smart

Today we did a poster about being sun smart. The people in my group were.. Elia, Mia,Lucy and Me (Emma) . We got to draw, colour and write on the poster.The song on it goes

"slip on a t-shirt, slop on some sunscreen, slap on a hat wrap on some sunglasses and slide into the shade". I think it is very important to wear sunscreen so you don’t get burnt. This is what ours looked like…

Week 2 of Term 1

This is the second week of school for the year 5’s,4’s 3 ‘s 2’s and 1’s. This year I am with Mrs Drummond. Now let me tell you some things we did. We decorated  and coloured-in a big puzzle piece each. The point of the puzzle piece was for people that walk by our classroom window they can see some of our personalities. Mine is very colourful, crazy and fun. My one has a pizza, pug, ice cream and a rainbow on it because they're my favourite things.

Maori Art

Last week the year 5’s with Mrs Suggate did Maori art for Waitangi Day.
1, we did a couple draft drawings just finding what type of pattern we wanted.
2,We did a draft drawing of our chosen one (the one we liked).
3,We did our final copy and coloured it in with pastels (it was hard).
